What is Practical Basketball on Roblox?
Practical Basketball is made by the Roblox group Practical's Games, owned by PracticalPhysics. It aims to feel like real basketball: shots, layups and dunks run on a timing meter, and THESPIKE.GG notes there is no assisted shooting. The game page is titled [ALPHA] Practical Basketball and warns that nothing is final.
After stress tests through most of 2026, it opened to everyone in late October. On November 1 the Roblox API showed about 103 million visits, 25,700 people playing and servers of up to 50. Rolimons recorded a peak of about 147,000 concurrent players on October 31.
Most builds and controls guides were written during Stress Test 3 (July 29 to August 12). The alpha may have changed stats and keybinds, so check the in-game menus.
How to start playing Practical Basketball
- Create your playerPick a position (Guard, Forward or Center) and set the frame: height, wingspan, weight and body type. These decide which moves your player can do well.
- Finish the six tutorialsLearn Practical Basketball has Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, Finishing, Defense and Post lessons. Each one makes you repeat a move until you land it, and Allthings.how says they reward Coins.
- Practice the shot meterHold the shoot input and release near the green part of the meter. Open shots are more forgiving than contested ones.
- Join a gameFrom the main menu choose Play Now, then Random Lobby for a public game or Create Lobby to play privately with friends.
Practical Basketball controls for PC, console and mobile
Official controls are posted in the community server. The table combines PC inputs that THESPIKE.GG, Allthings.how, Pro Game Guides and Beebom agree on with the console layout most fan guides use. On PC, E near the rim is a layup, not a dunk.

- Self lob is disputed. THESPIKE.GG and Pro Game Guides list F; Beebom lists Shift + F. Finish the catch with E for a layup or Space for a dunk.
- Console bindings are unofficial. One fan site uses the right trigger to shoot instead of X or Square, and no official controller map has been published.
- Mobile uses on-screen buttons. Mobile is supported, but no guide we trust lists a full touch layout yet.

- Wings are the safest pick. A 6'8" two-way small forward can drive, shoot mid-range and guard the perimeter, so it fits any lineup.
- Pick for your team. Five shooters lose the boards in a 5v5.
Practical Basketball badges and takeovers
Badges means two different things for this game, which confuses searches:

Takeovers are separate from badges: a single build-wide boost such as Highlight Reel (dunks and finishing through contact), Knockdown Shooter (mid-range and corner threes) or Smooth Operator (shot timing). Choose a takeover that matches what your attributes already do well.

None is needed to play. Extra Slots matters if you want several builds, since each build uses a slot.
